About me
Welcome to my website.
I am a literary and cultural historian interested in how visual culture, life-writing and literature respond to war. I am currently Lecturer in Public History at City St George’s, University of London, and was previously Past & Present Postdoctoral Fellow at the Royal Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Research.
My first book, India in the Second World War: An Emotional History, was published by Hurst and Oxford University Press in 2023, and shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society’s 2024 Gladstone Prize. My current research project is on the 1943 Bengal Famine, hunger, empathy and the future of food.
I have worked for over 15 years as a freelance writer, and been published in leading Indian and British newspapers and magazines. These include BBC History magazine, History Today, the Guardian, theWire.in, and The Telegraph (India).
