About me
Welcome to my website.
I am a literary and cultural historian interested in how visual culture, life-writing and literature respond to war. I am currently Lecturer in Public History at City, University of London, and was previously Past & Present Postdoctoral Fellow at the Royal Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Research.
My first book, India in the Second World War: An Emotional History, was published by Hurst and Oxford University Press in May 2023. I am developing my current research project on the 1943 Bengal Famine, empathy and the future of food.
I have worked for over 15 years as a freelance writer, and been published in leading Indian and British newspapers and magazines, and online. These include BBC History magazine, History Today, the Guardian, theWire.in, and The Telegraph (India).
